This is the category where advertising diverges furthest from what the law allows and what the evidence supports. Understanding both makes it far easier to tell a legitimate product from a risky one.
Men’s formulas combine botanicals — ginseng, maca, fenugreek, tribulus, tongkat ali — with zinc, magnesium, B vitamins and sometimes L-arginine or L-carnitine.
They are positioned around energy, stamina, vitality and physical performance.
No dietary supplement may lawfully claim to treat erectile dysfunction or raise testosterone in the countries covered on this site. Advertising that does so is a compliance failure and often a quality signal too.
Ginseng is a headline ingredient in energy and men’s wellness formulas, but the name covers several unrelated plants.
BotanicalMaca is a high-altitude Andean root sold worldwide in energy and libido formulas.
BotanicalAshwagandha has moved from Ayurvedic pharmacy to the global stress-and-sleep aisle in barely a decade.
BotanicalFenugreek is a kitchen spice, a traditional galactagogue and a modern men’s-supplement ingredient all at once.
MineralZinc is an essential trace mineral with a genuine public-health story in sub-Saharan Africa, where dietary intake is often marginal.
MineralMagnesium is an essential mineral involved in hundreds of enzyme reactions, and one of the nutrients most people under-consume.
NutrientL-carnitine moves fatty acids into mitochondria to be burned for energy, which is why it appears in both cardiovascular and weight-management formulas.
Check the species. Ginseng, Siberian ginseng and Indian ginseng are three different plants.
Zinc and magnesium should be near recommended intakes. Very high zinc in a daily product is a warning sign, not a feature.
A blend that gives one total for eight ingredients tells you nothing about any of them.
Compliant products use supportive language. Guarantees of specific sexual outcomes indicate a product to avoid.

These products reach African buyers through chain pharmacies, supermarket health aisles, online pharmacies, marketplaces and direct-order delivery. Each channel differs in price, choice, advice and accountability — our where to buy guide compares them, and the Kenya guide covers that market in detail.
Legitimate products from licensed retailers generally are. The risk lies in unregulated online sellers, where adulteration with prescription drugs has been repeatedly documented.
Correcting a genuine deficiency can normalise measures. Beyond that, no widely sold supplement ingredient has convincingly raised testosterone in men with normal levels.
