Joint products are the biggest supplement category in Kenya, driven by physically demanding work and an ageing urban population. This page covers what is available, what it costs and how to judge a dose.
Farming, construction, market portering, long-distance driving and matatu work all load joints repeatedly over decades. Add an urban population living longer and the demand for joint comfort products follows naturally.
The category is also the one where marketing promises most exceed evidence, which makes an informed approach worth more here than almost anywhere else on the shelf.
Most contain some combination of glucosamine, chondroitin, MSM, collagen and turmeric. Pharmacy products generally state their amounts; direct-order products often do not.
The reference points from published trials are 1500 mg of glucosamine daily, 800–1200 mg of chondroitin, and 1–3 g of MSM. Any product can be measured against those figures if it discloses them.
Direct-order joint products in our catalogue advertise between roughly 5,000 and 6,800 shillings per pack. Pharmacy products span a wider range depending on brand and dose.
Because a fair trial takes three months, cost per day matters far more than pack price. A product requiring three capsules daily consumes packs quickly.
Weight change has the largest documented effect on knee osteoarthritis symptoms of any non-surgical intervention. Strengthening the muscles around the joint is second. Both are free.
Supplements sit below those in effect size. They are worth trying, at a sensible price, with realistic expectations and a review date.
Listing is not endorsement. Where a supplier does not publish a composition, the product page says so.
