Where to Buy Supplements in Tanzania: Pharmacies, Marketplaces and Delivery
Buying supplements in Tanzania means choosing between licensed pharmacies, retail chains, marketplaces and direct delivery. Ask the seller which product registration or standards mark the pack carries, and check it against the TMDA or TBS public information.
Pharmacies and licensed outlets
The Tanzania Medicines and Medical Devices Authority regulates medicines and related products and licenses pharmacies (duka la dawa). The Tanzania Bureau of Standards covers standards for food-type products including many supplements.
- TMDA-licensed pharmacies — Pharmacies and Duka la Dawa Muhimu outlets licensed by TMDA. The authority publishes registers that let you confirm an outlet or a registered product.
Supermarkets and general retail
- Supermarket health aisles — Larger supermarkets in Dar es Salaam and Arusha carry mainstream vitamins and minerals.
Marketplaces and online sellers
- Call-centre ordering — Many herbal supplement brands sell through an order form and a confirmation call, with payment on delivery. Confirm the exact product, pack size and total price on the call.

- For cash on delivery, open the outer packaging and read the label before paying the courier.
Use payment on delivery as an inspection point. Open the outer packaging in front of the courier and check the product name, pack size, batch number, expiry date and seal. If anything does not match, decline the parcel.
Delivery coverage
Courier networks reach Dar es Salaam, Arusha, Mwanza, Dodoma, Mbeya, Morogoro, Tanga, Zanzibar City and other centres. Delivery outside major cities takes longer and, in some remote areas, may not be available.
