Buying Supplements from Online Pharmacies in Kenya: How to Check a Seller
Online pharmacy in Kenya covers everything from chain pharmacy websites to an individual with a phone number. Six checks will tell you which one you are dealing with, and they take about five minutes.
What a legitimate online pharmacy looks like
A real online pharmacy is a licensed physical premises with an internet ordering channel. It has an address, a landline, a named responsible pharmacist and a licence you can reference.
The major Kenyan chains all operate online ordering alongside their branches, which is the simplest way to get delivery with pharmacy accountability behind it.
Six checks before you pay
Work through these in order. Any that fails is a reason to look elsewhere.
- A physical address you can locate, not just a phone number
- A landline or business number, not only a mobile
- A named pharmacist or a licence reference
- Product listings that show ingredients, pack size and expiry policy
- A stated returns and complaints process
- Payment on delivery available, or a recognised payment channel with recourse
Warning signs
Insistence on advance payment to a personal mobile money number, prices far below the market, medicines offered without a prescription, and no way to contact a human being are all reasons to stop.
So is a seller who will not answer what is in the product.
On delivery
Open the outer packaging in front of the courier. Check the product name, pack size, batch number and expiry against your order, and look for an intact seal.
If anything does not match, decline the parcel. Keep the order confirmation and photograph the pack — those are what make a complaint actionable.
If something goes wrong
Contact the seller first with your order reference and photographs. If that fails, report to the Pharmacy and Poisons Board, particularly if you suspect a counterfeit or an unlicensed operation.
If a product made you unwell, see a clinician and take the pack with you.

Is it legal to buy medicines online in Kenya?
Licensed pharmacies may sell through online channels. Prescription medicines still require a prescription, and a seller offering them without one is operating unlawfully.
Should I pay before delivery?
Cash on delivery is standard in Kenya and gives you an inspection opportunity. Be cautious about advance payment to a personal account.
